This website outlines the research that went into the writing of the Wisdom of Rhiannon series. There are two books in the series, The Journey to Mona, Home of the Druids, and Unleash the War Chariots which concludes the story. Both books have been extensively revised and updated in 2024.
An outline of the first story can be found here. Book 1, The Journey to Mona, Home of the Druids, describes a journey across pre-Roman Wales and draws on actual places inhabited by the Celts. The journey as described can be followed today and includes visits to hill forts, gold mines, standing stones, lakes, and sacred sites. All places are as historically accurate as a work of fiction allows.
Unleash the War Chariots takes place after the first invasion by Caesar and describes the unsuccessful defence of Keltia by the local tribes. Yet the coming High King learns a vital lesson from this experience which leads to the defeat of the Romans when they return.
Both books draw on traditional oral and written Welsh and Irish sources for material. As an example, the Welsh historian, Geoffrey of Monmouth, speaks of the Celts defeating Caesar’s invasions, contradicting Caesar’s own version of events and the one held to by most historians.
